is it really necessary to have a good model of cellphone?

yeah, I have the same thinking like you too but I guess basically people get a fancy handphone to show off to friends. Or maybe they are into the functions. I think everyone has their likes or dislikes. For me, I'm just too careless to not be worried that I might misplace my handphone or left it in a public place so I have a moderate handphone.

I'm with you on this... so long as I can receive/make calls/texts thats fine for me. Even if I had the money for one with all the 'bells and whistles' I wouldn't bother. I suppose people have their phones for different reasons. I have mine to keep in touch with my sons and to make emeergency calls so need no more than a basic model.

Like you, I think it depends on how you would use the phone. If it is just the basic, then a simple one will suffice. And it is so true that cellphones are targets of thieves. In fact, how many have died because of this?

you're a filipino right?! hahaha.. it's funny that in our country, it's as if having the latest model of cellphone makes you 'in'.. before, i was really into buying a cellphone whenever a new one comes out, or sometimes, i fantasize of having one.. but now, i would rather have the cheaper one, which is more easier and safer(it's not attractive to robbers!) to use.. i like nokia 1100 cause its so user-friendly and its small enough to place inside the pocket without anyone noticing it..:)

I wouldn't say so. I have a Samsung A-900, one of the 1st so called smart phones, but really most of the features I played with but don't use on a daily basis.

An example:
Music: I have an iPod and my bought songs that I had on my cell phone are no longer useable because BELL decided to switch to a subscription based service.

Bottomline, if you don't need it and won't upgrade anytime soon get the cheapest phone. And some of them come free with a contract.

Well, I think that, as long as your cellphone serves the purpose for which you bought it, then it doesn't matter what model it is as long as you're getting your money's worth. I'm not saying that I am not a fan of flashy phones, though. XP

i think a cellphone shud be fantastic to use...........1 shud be fascinated by looking at our phone.isn't it.yes it is.........tats y v need a good cellphone 2 carry with us.........i think it shud b fine enough to get hold of it.....then only one cud easily maintain a cellphone,but 4 one's who doesn't bother about cellphones they need not 2 b worried bcoz thay r not bothered about cellphone's exterior,they bother only the calls,msgs,etc

for me it's not necessary to have good model of cellphone.Because most people buy the latest brand of cellphone just to be in and be known...but for me, as long as i can call and text and received also call and text, that's no problem even your cellphone is not a latest model..as you said, it is much prone on holdappers out there specially when your in a public place and alone!!(goodbye to your latest cellphone!!!)

The saying goes that if you have a modern mobile phone then you will walk tall in the world of popularity! What a bunch of balony!! I have a mobile phone and I can tell you, it's at the bottom end of the spectrum. Yes, the intention of mobile phones were initially to communicate with others. Now that has all changed! GPS, Maps, Games, surfing the net, watching movies and the list goes on!! If you like all the mod cons then you should buy the latest phone, probably that Apple I-phone! But who is to say this is right or wrong, this is your personal choice. There are advertizers that probably would try and make you feel guilty for not choosing the most popular choice of phones, but again this is your choice! If you like a simple phone that just vibrates, then that's fine! If you like a phone that communicates with one of the satellites in space, then that is also your choice!
