Going to the doctor! |
After complaining about feeling ill for a few weeks now, and having a couple of days off work, my friend finally convinced me to go to the doctor! I hate going there, it scares me sooo much! i'm always afraid they're going to announce i have some sort of awful disease or perform some sort of horrific tests on me, which is completely ridiculous considering i am training to be a nurse myself!!! So, i booked my appointment and went and got it over and done with, i do feel better now i've been but i didn't like it one little bit! How do you feel when you have to go to see the doctor, does it freak you out too? xxx

Munchkin547 (947) | 3 months ago | Oh i'll be alright i know!! I don't think i have anything serious but they couldn't tell me anything there and then, just took some blood. I just wondered if anyone else get a but concerned about having to go, it's not really something that affects my life in any huge way!! hehe thanks for the response, happy mylotting xxx

freefogging (279) | 3 months ago | You will be fine, but isn't it anoying that these Dr's go to school for years and all they seem to be able to is order tests. I went to school for 4 years to become a nurse(by the was congraduations on your choice of carreers,I'm sure you'll make a fine nurse,But a very very bad patientlol) My husband is a nurse and I was a nuse until I became disabled 3 years ago, It's the best job in the world. My husband and I worked at the same facility, like a small rural emergency room that treats everything, well we would play this diagnosis game and of course he would be right more than I,but the funny thing is we would be right more than the doc.! But nurses and nursing students know too much for our own good and ever time we go to the dr. we think we are going to die.lol you are going to be fine future nurse!!!God Bless
| |
Munchkin547 (947) | 3 months ago | Aw thank you! it sounds as though you and your husband were pretty good at your jobs! Doctors can certainly get a bit big for their boots, i can't count the number of times i've been treated like i don't exist, but i just tell myself that they need us nurses, all their patients would more than likely be dead if we weren't there, and there are some that realise that which is nice!! I do think we probably know too much for our own good when it comes to our own health, and i am definitely a terrible patient!! I going to try to be the best nurse that i can! thanks for the encouragement!! xxx

3. p1kef1sh (3483) | 3 months ago | Depends why I've gone. If it's a simple "don't waste my time man you've got a cold" I don't mind too much. But if it's "bend over whilst I put my rubber gloves on. Oh look nurse you'll not have seen one like this before" then no siree. That's NOT my idea of fun.
| |
| |
p1kef1sh (3483) | 3 months ago | PS. Are you sure that you're OK?
| |
Munchkin547 (947) | 3 months ago | haha i don't think anyone likes the "bend over" variety of visits!! lol I get worked up if i'm going to have my blood pressure taken, it's completely irrational! I think i'll live, not feeling great and slightly concerned but am thinking it's just a nasty virus that won't go away until i admit i'm ill and have a few days in bed, which is exactly what i'm doing now!! thanks for you concern mister!! xxx
| |
p1kef1sh (3483) | 3 months ago | Right. You are ill. Fluids are to be kept high. No milk. Light meals, soups (preferably tomato). A bowl of ice cream every now and then. Magazines. TV. Mobile phone - well you are young. Laptop/PC? Anything else. Oh yes. Clean damp flannel and spritzer spray thingy. Open a window for a little ventilation. Have I forgotten anything. Of course I have. TEDDY!!! or other soft toy. You must take regular naps too. Throw those ciggys in the drawer, you don't need them. That'll do for now. I'll look in on you later. Don't have too many friends round. They'll only distract you and you need to be resting. XX

Munchkin547 (947) | 3 months ago | Aw thanks nurse p1kef1sh! Hehe i am doing just that, am snuggled up in bed with my laptop on my knee, keeping warm and generally being lazy! I hate it but i think i need to do it! Got my phone in hand so am not out of touch with the world, and only got one friend coming over later, i have demanded to be made brews and have hot water bottles brought to me! lol I don't own a teddy bear that is cuddlable though:-( went through a rather rash throwing away of childhood things a couple of years ago, might have to demand one if them is brought to me too, and if they have an issue with it i'll let them know my cyber daddy said i needed one!! lol xxx
| |
p1kef1sh (3483) | 3 months ago | Good girl. Look after yourself and yes, you need a cuddly thing. I don't mean a human type either. Although that probably does have an appeal for you!! LOL. XX
| |
Munchkin547 (947) | 3 months ago | Doesn't it have an appeal for everyone!! are you trying to make out i'm some sort of man eating nympho?!? lol how rude!! hehe xxx
| |
p1kef1sh (3483) | 3 months ago | If the cap fits..... LOL. Of course not. Shame you don't have a headache. Very good for headaches is cuddles and ahem.....!!!!
| |
Munchkin547 (947) | 3 months ago | lol i might have to start playing some loud music then! haha xxx

Munchkin547 (947) | 3 months ago | is my musical taste that bad?!?! xx
| |
p1kef1sh (3483) | 3 months ago | Chemical Romance or Panic at the Disco!! I think not. How about a little Mantovani (your mother will know who he was) or perhaps Donny Osmond. LOL. Now, how about this:uk.youtube.com/watch?v=WS5ER8HaIhU or this:uk.youtube.com/watch?v=KCdhMN1ZCO8&feature=related or finally, a truly relaxing song -uk.youtube.com/watch?v=rsXJcIODLtQ&feature=related
| |
Munchkin547 (947) | 3 months ago | My computer goes funny if i open more than one window so i'll check them out in a bit, thanks!! I seem to remember saying that i didn't like my chemical romance or panic at the disco, i'd rather listen to a banchee being murdered!! lol i'm offended you thought i had such little taste!! lol xxx
| |
p1kef1sh (3483) | 3 months ago | Now that takes me back. Siouxsie and the Banshees (or was it "ies"?). Real music. LOL.
| |
Munchkin547 (947) | 3 months ago | hmm highly debatable, but coming from the man who mentioned donny osmond i'll take it!! haha I have just been listening to lindisfarne, is that acceptable?! A bit of a change from my usualy but just had a little urge to hear it!! hehe xxx
| |
p1kef1sh (3483) | 3 months ago | You're the wrong side of the country for the Fog on the Tyne (is all mine all mine). Now they are a truly wonderful band. We went to see them in Birmingham in 1986. You are already high in my estimation. You've just gone up another notch!!
| |
Munchkin547 (947) | 3 months ago | lol i was only one then!! Lady eleanor is one of my favourite songs ever, it's got a really great atmosphere to it, that sounds strange but i'll bet you know what i mean! don't go telling people about my love of the golden oldies though, some people around here still think i'm cool! haha xxx
| |
p1kef1sh (3483) | 3 months ago | Now then Munchkin. How are you feeling now?
| |
Munchkin547 (947) | 3 months ago | i have been feeling a bit better actually, i had some er herm hugs earlier and that improved my mood dramatically! lol i am still in bed with tea, hot water bottle and wait for it..... teddy!!! xxx
| |
p1kef1sh (3483) | 3 months ago | Hooray. Teddy too. That's what I like to hear. I'm in a real old checking up mood tonight. I've got you in bed - stay there and keep warm. Daughter is in her new house on her own (second night) jumping at shadows. Her house mates don't move in for another 10 days. I Skype straight to her room and can check that she's OK. Tough being a Dad you know. LOL. Now, keep up the fluids. Don't stay up too late, you need a good night's sleep. XX
| |
Munchkin547 (947) | 3 months ago | hehe well you will have children!! aw i'll bet you're daughter will be fine, i remember my first time living alone and i was terrified the first couple of nights but couldn't live with anyone else now!! She'll be having the time of her life when her housemates get there! i'm not shifting from this bed until i have to go to work tomorrow!! hehe i know, was amazed that i got a teddy, feel all loved now! lol thanks for checking up on me, nice to feel cared for!! xxx
| |
p1kef1sh (3483) | 3 months ago | How are we tonight Munchkin? Have you been up today. Had something proper to eat and stayed off the ciggies.
| |
Munchkin547 (947) | 3 months ago | I've been up, cooked and eaten corn beef hash, smoked considerably less than normal, collected and taken my medicine and now i am tucked back up in bed like a good little munchkin!! hehe xxx

p1kef1sh (3483) | 3 months ago | Good. Got teddy? Lights out at 10.30 but you can listen to music until you fall asleep if you want.

Munchkin547 (947) | 3 months ago | Haha it can be tough to get a line in on the brachial, but i can imagine, i'm always so scared of hurting people when i'm doing any intervention, i can remember taking a surgical drain out a few weeks ago and it was a lot longer than i thought, it just seemed to keep coming and coming, the poor lady didn't know what had hit her, i was white as a sheet by the time i'd finished!! lol You're right i don't think we always realise how hard it can be for patients to spend a long time on a ward, it must be a very lonely feeling! xxx

Munchkin547 (947) | 3 months ago | It was on a gastrostomy, i was first year and never done it before, scared the life out of me!! haha lesson learned though and it wasn't actually painful for the patient i think she was just as surprised as me! I think with a lot of these things it's just having the confidence to do it, that's my main problem i am so scared of hurting people that i don't dare try, hopefully i'll get better with time though, if i knew everything already there'd be no sense in being a student!! xxx

sirrob (1733) | 3 months ago | that's right, we all came from becoming a newbie but don't use it as a reason not to do anything or try something if you know it or have seen someone do it and it was taught to you. sometimes taking a proactive attitude matters in making things easy and able to learn fast.

6. ellie333 (5664) | 3 months ago | Hi Munchkin, Well I hope you are feeling much better and glad you acually made it to the doctors for reassurance if nothing else eh and to shut your friend up, but she is only concerned bless. My doctors are that bad that I have to arrange to be ill about two weeks in advance so I am either dead or better by then so rarely bother. It doesn't bother me going tough, just the appointment factor really. They do do emergency ones but as I never see my probs as emergency rarely use that facility. Huggles. Ellie:D

Munchkin547 (947) | 3 months ago | Hi Ellie! I was amazed when i got registered with my dr up here, it's really easy to get an appointment when you want one, even if it's not an emergency! My last doctor needed about 6 weeks notice of when you might start to be feeling ill and wouldn't give out emergency appointments on the same day, it was disgraceful! I think i have only ever once used an emergency appointment, when i was really really poorly, most of the time i think there are people out there who need it more than me! Yeah i feel a bit less worried now i have been, and at least my friend will get off my case! lol i shouldn't really complain though, i'm lucky to have someone who cares enough to make me go!! thanks for the response!! big love xxxx

7. James72 (3528) | 3 months ago | You would have to drag me kicking and screaming to a Doctor I think! I am not afraid of them as such but just don;t really see much point in going. All they seem to do is give you a prescription for antibiotics and send you on your way. I would have to be on the verge of death to go willingly! Dentists though? No chance. I would rather chop off a body part than go to a Dentist! lol.
| |
| |
Munchkin547 (947) | 3 months ago | Haha but if there is infection present you won't get better without antobiotics so there is a point to it, but i still really really hate going!! Dentists i don't have a problem with at all, it's only the doctor that makes me all frightened!! lol thanks for the response! xxx
