Will the Kitten make it?

Do I need to wrap it up to feed it or can I just pick it up? I have never dealt with one so little.

Wow, you sound like a pro, someone who has done this before. Very good tips you gave. I didn't know that you rub the belly to help the kittens get the sensation for pooping. I thought it was their rear side that was rubbed. I saw that demonstrated at a zoo once, with cub tigers. I guess one works just as well as the other.

You can do it both ways, as long as you feel comfortable doing it. Perhaps it will be easier if you put him on your lap and help him to held his head up as you do it;)

As sudalunts said, you can also stimulate his rear to help him poop.;)

When they're tiny, the mother cat licks them "down there" to stimulate their urinating and defecating. But when they're old enough to eat solid food, usually all you have to do is put them in a litter box right after they eat, and pet them and tell them they're so good, and that will encourage them to use the litter, and usually they'll take right to it.

Thanks, I bought some formula for cats, but after it gets a little bigger, I don't think I will keep buying it.

it needs the formula= regular milk is processed especially for human consumption - kitten formula is more like the mothers milk with all the vitamins it needs plus other thing - it does not need sugar - it will give a false sense of fullness and will not eat as much -

was suggesting the sugar till ya got something tofeed it.

It sure isn't eating much. Should I put something in the box for it to cuddle with, like a small stuffed animal? It still doesn't seem to be peeing or having bowel movements. It is making noises everytime it is about feeding time, so I guess that is good.

I'd put it on a heating pad on low and turn it off after it warms up some so that it doesn't get too hot or for too long and yeah, something for it to cuddle up to would give it some security, feeling wise. You have to feed it ever so many hours, something like every two hours or four, I can't remember but if you don't it'll starve to death. When it grows up, it'll think you're it's mommy and suckle on your skin and clothes or what ever it gets it's mouth on. They're some kind of sweet because you're all they know. My grandfather found a box of kittens at the dump one time and he brought them home and he and my grandmother nursed them till they were fully grown and they suckled on anybody they could get their little mouths on and were so darn sweet and very loving!!

The kitten did not make it. We did what we could. It ate at 8 and we checked on it at 9 and it was gone.

So sorry the baby died. Sometimes there's just something too wrong with it for it to survive and mama cats know instinctively which was probably why she abandoned it.

We lost 6 from one batch last year - mama was too sick with upper respiratory to care for them and even though we tried, they just didn't make it. She was too young and too sick, they came too early, they may have caught the upper respiratory from her. We just don't know.

Even almost a year later, it makes me cry because we tried so hard.

We did get a carton of the formula, but it doesn't seem like it is eating enough. We still have yet to get it to have a bowel movement. Is that normal?

I truly don't remember how that was so I hope someone can answer it for you. I*suspect* it would be a while for that without having anything more than the formula to eat but I may be wrong there. I hope it starts eating better for you. I know we just kept trying. When she just took a few drops, everyone was disappointed and worried but then often the next time she ate like a little piggy.
