truth or...not | | what do you think of this: My friend and her husband are going through a divorce. However, there was this big bill he left behind for her to pay from his pay per views on their cable bill from when he was buying movies and sports access while she was at work. He told her he would pay for that portion of the bill. He said the check is in the mail. A week later she still hadn't received the check and questioned him. He said, "it must have gotten lost in the mail." He then told her, "I made the check out directly to the cable company but sent it to you to mail in for payment." Well the check still didn't arrive a couple days later and she questioned him again. At which point his story changed again to, "why do you say you didn't get the check, the bank removed that money from my account." She tells him she never cashed the check and asks how she could cash a check made out to the cable company. He gives no answer, just says he will check with the bank. As more time passes he says the bank is still looking into it but that the check was cashed. My friend decided to have the cable company print out a statement of all recent payments. Of course, there was no payment posted in the amount he claimed. What do you think is going on?

It's a shame that he has to act so immature about a bill that is rightfully his but divorce brings out the worst in people so he either doesn't want to pay it or he's playing a little control game where he can laugh at your friend's efforts to get the money. She might as well just pay the bill instead of continuing to jump through hoops because he's only going to continue to frustrate her.

Depending on the amount it mught be owrth it to go to small claims court. Make sure she documents all her conversations stating that he agrees he was supposed to pay it, he can try to prove to the judge that he made the effort. It probably won't even go that far, hell just pay to avoid going to court. Again, only if the dollar amount makes it worth it.
