My Dad died in 2001. It was a tragedy, as the doctors made a mistake. They went through an artery. They managed to save him, but he could not regain ground and ultimately died, never leaving the hospital. I could write many things about that. But here is the miracle.

When my father died, I suggested that people contribute money to any organization of their choice, as my father would have liked that idea. (This was instead of flowers.) Several of my nieces contributed money to firefighters, as their father had been a firefighter, but died of cancer the year before. 911 had just happened so it seemed a really really nice thought for the memory of their father, and for the firefighters in 911. My Dad would like that, too.

I was also sent money to contribute to Juvenile Diabetes, as my youngest daughter has Juvenile Diabetes. When I received the checks, I took the checks to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation in Shawnee Mission, Kansas to give to them. Right across the hall from the Juvenile Diabetes Association office was an Ohio Casualty Insurance office. My father worked for that company for 60 years and was Vice President of claims in Ohio. I did not even know they had an office in Kansas. I felt like Dad was looking on, as I contributed money across the hall in memory of him. It just seemed surreal to have that little office across from ADA.

I think contributing money to good causes is so much better than buying expensive flowers that are just going to die anyway, as nice as they look that money can do so much good in the name of the person who passed away...your dad is still helping and thats wonderful...

lilalady,
(Cute name) Yes, I know my Dad would not have been particularly impressed with the flowers. I felt like Dad would have liked this, and he did seem to be looking down on us. Thanks for your comments. walkgal
