Sarah Palin's Speech At the Republican Convention. I Admit, She Hit A Home Run. email this discussion to a friend?

I just finished watching Sarah Palin's acceptance speech at the Republican Convention. I must admit that she gave a great and moving speech.

I'm glad we finally were able to hear from Mrs. Palin. Her speech was full of attacks and sarcasm towards Barack Obama, Joe Biden and the Democratic Party.

While listening to her, I was thinking to myself that she has now entrenched herself into this campaign and we, who oppose her, can no longer be accused of being sexist or any of the other things we've been accused of doing.

It's on now. May the best man or woman win.

I just finished watching her acceptance speech also. I thought it was great. I loved all the sacrasm and thought she did a wonderful job addressing the real issues of this campaign.

myLot reputation of 89/100. lloydanthony111 (1183)   ranked 220 out of 4,368 in politics  3 months ago

I have to disagree with you when you say "she did a wonderful job addressing the real issues".

Not once did I hear her speak of dealing with the record home foreclosures here in the United States.

Not once did I hear her speak of the over 40 million Americans without access to affordable healthcare.

Not once did I hear her speak of the shabby treatment our returning Veterans are receiving after coming home from Iraq and Afganistan.

Not once did I hear her speak of alternative sources of fuel.

Not once did I hear her speak about the terrible budget deficit and trade imbalance affecting middle class Americans.

She did continue the War theme, even though the majority of Americans are opposed to the war in Iraq.

She did make fun of Barack Obama's community service, something that should be admired and not made fun of.

I agree with you that her speech was great. But now she must begin really discussing the issues facing the American people.

I think you missed some things. I took notes about everything. It wasn't a long part of the speech, but she did mention most of those things briefly.

I think most Americans do understand about the war and Victory in Iraq. Even though Obama still cannot make himself say it, the surge was a huge success. The Republicans will continue to be on top of whatever is required to keep our country safe and secure. No apologies to our enemies needed.

She did nothing to talk about real issues. All she did was poke fun at the other side. She also talked about something she did in Alaska. I was with her, but after awhile it all feel apart. The only issues she addressed in this campaign were the McCain camps cheap shots at Obama.

Re -- alternative sources of energy

She mentioned coal in Virginia and the other state frequently. She mentioned the pipeline being built in Alaska and more drilling to help ease the energy crunch. she also mentioned wind, solar, geothermal and other alternative energy forms. She's for alternative energy and not like Bushie who wants to keep his oil pockets lined with money while people like us have to work 2 jobs just to be able to afford to put gas in our cars to go to work.

I dont mean to point out your race or anything, I am glad that we have African-Americans like you that vote with sense. And I thank you for that. Anyways her speech tonight was a nice one, she did really well she could have talked about herself more but other than that it was perfecto.

"I dont mean to point out your race or anything".

Race doesn't have anything to do with this election. I'm an America citizen who has seen my standard of living decline over the last eight years.

I'm an America citizen who feels that I was better off eight years ago even though I'm working more hours than ever in my lifetime.

I'm an American citizen who feels that the Republican Party aren't in touch with the issues that face the America people today.

I think the Republicans have everyone's best interest in mind. They want less government. They want companies to be able to start and to expand, which will create jobs.

They want lower taxes and lower government expenses and less government. That's what we need.

And to do that properly, we need these two rebels. Boy I think they could kick some Washington butt.

Annie, could you be more specific?

myLot reputation of 76/100. ZephyrSun (2051)   ranked 94 out of 4,368 in politics  3 months ago

I'll be more specific piasa. For the past 8 years the economy has continued to sprial into the toilet, this year was the first year that Bush has done anything about this trend. He sent out a check to the American people, a stimulus check in hopes of bettering the economy. His hopes worked for a month and then all numbers indicated that since everyone has used their check, that people are spending again, it was a nice try, believe me, I used ours to pay doctor's bills, but it didn't work. Bush had the opportunity to "catch" Osama and decided to let him get away. That really was a big blunder, but I'm sure with the fear of Americans have with terrorist it plays really nice for this election. The cost of gasoline has continued to rise but Bush has sat back on his butt and done nothing. He could release some of the SOR but he hasn't, releasing them could lower the price a little or it couldn't but he won't even try it and see. Do you need anymore? Should I go on? Just let me know.

lloydanthony -

Tthe good news for you is that Barack Obama is in touch with your plight. He knows that you spend most of your day standing in a soup line and he has the solutions.

First order of business is to raise your taxes, assuming you pay taxes. If not he can find someone else to tax on your behalf.

Next we will increase government and spend like crazy to put in place all of the programs promised during the campaign.

To make sure food prices don't come down, we'll devote more corn to ethanol production. I need that grain in my car far worse than the poor people of other countries who are starving.

To make sure energy prices stay high, Obama will encourage Pelosi to continue banning the vote on drilling. He will increase the tax-payer subsidies being poured into alternate energy programs, like the windmills. This energy program plus whatever it takes to save our planet from global warming (we now have less than 10 years of existence according to Gore) will certainly provide abundant opportunity to increase your taxes over and over.

Four years of Obama should be adequate to get you back on track.

"she made the Democratic party look immature".

Please go into further details about that statement. How is the party that supports Social Security immature?

How is the party that wants healthcare for all American's immature?

Being immature is spending 10 to 12 billion dollars per month on an illegal war.

Being immature is giving tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans and the wealthiest corporations while we have a budget deficit.

I'm glad you feel that "she made the Democratic party look immature".

Now the gloves come off and the fight begins.

myLot reputation of 84/100. kenzie45230 (2331)   ranked 743 out of 4,368 in politics  3 months ago

Being unwise/immature/misinformed is thinking you can tax and tax and tax the people who make over $250,000 (and not anyone else) and that they'll take it lying down. You know that they'll find loopholes...and then to support the programs promised, Obama will have to raise taxes on people with even lower incomes.

It's also thinking that you can raise taxes on businesses without them fighting back - by leaving the country more and more and taking jobs with them.

Kenzie, can you explain to me why my husband works over 60 hours a week, and I work approximately 50 hours a week to make about 60K a year, but yet my sister and her husband who each work 40 hours a week and make 170K a year pay less taxes than I do? Actually could you explain where the fairness is in that?
And I just have to throw in there that I have three kids, coach two soccer teams, am on two PTA's, volunteer for political campaigns and do everything in my power to help make the condition of my community better. I don't catch a break. But yet my sis (who I do love, don't get me wrong), works her 40 hours, then comes home to her house that the nanny for their one child cleaned, and has never volunteered a day in her life gets the "American Dream" handed to her on a silver platter? I'm not trying to come off as complaining, but mine is not the only situation like that, and I think it's time for those that have to step up and do their share to help the have nots.

She did do a good job. One thing I can say is that if Obama is elected there isn't going to be an drilling for oil in Alaska. From what I hear she is a b*tch and she will not let them drill if she isn't the vice president. Good luck getting her to comply with the democrats.

myLot reputation of 89/100. lloydanthony111 (1183)   ranked 220 out of 4,368 in politics  3 months ago

I admit she did a good job. But there was really very little substance.

Who cares if she opens up drilling in Alaska? It may be the best thing as it will encourage more investments in alternative fuel sources.

We don't need her to comply. We didn't know her before last week and we won't know her after November.

Drilling for oil is so old-school. It's time to invest in alternative sources of energy. We have the need and we have the technology.

Just like George Bush said, "We have to end our addiction to oil".

I don't know about you, but I'm ready for cleaner sources of energy. There's no reason why we can't do it.

Just think of how many new jobs this would create instead of windfall oil profits just going to a few.

I really want to take the issue of drilling for oil off of the table.

It's so old-school.

It was open season the day McCain chose her. There's been a non-stop barrage of attacks, mostly lies, from the left. Everything from her being a nazi sympathizer to her being a member of a radical third party that wants Alaska to secede from the US. People right here on mylot keep saying over and over again that her husband is CEO of BP. The lies they've managed to spread over the last five days are ridiculous. If this isn't open season, I don't know what is.

I didn't even go there, so why do you continue to follow me and and go look at my other posts. I have said that she is a flip flopper, but of course conversatives won't read the part where she agreed on and supported the "Bridge to Nowhere" before she was for it. She's under investigation for firing one law enforcement offical and she claims that he wasn't doing enough to control alcohol abuse, since the investigation started the old police chief has come out and said that he was fired after he wanted to close the bars earlier. There's another flip flop if it comes out that she did indeed fired them for those reasons.

What did she point out? Did she point out the fact that Barack Obama was right opposing the illegal war in Iraq?

How can you support a woman who is opposed to providing healthcare to millions of American children?

As a mayor and now Governor in Alaska, Sarah Palin and her family has the best taxpayer supported healthcare available.

I would respect her more if she gave up her healthcare and faced one of the issues 42 million everyday American citizens face---- LACK OF AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE.

Lloyd, she doesn't oppose providing healthcare to children. She probably just doesn't want the government to be in our lives anymore than they are! And, besides, there is insurance out there for children whose parents can't afford it. I know; my daughter almost had to get it for her children.

"I would respect her more if she gave up her healthcare and faced one of the issues 42 million everyday American citizens face---- LACK OF AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE."

No, then you'd be able to say what a irresponsible parent she was for subjecting her kids to no insurance.

Barb, governemt aid for health insurance as it stands right now is a joke. Let me tell you a story, maybe two. When my husband got out of the military he couldn't work because he had been injured. We weren't married at the time, and had two kids. His medical needs were taken care of by the VA, but financially he was getting $175 a month from the military. I was working two jobs full time and neither one offered benefits. I went to apply for medical card for my kids. I was turned down because I made "too much" money, which equaled barely enough to pay rent and provide food for the family. We were drowning in medical bills due to one of my our childs heart condition, had to file bankruptcy and ended up moving in with my inlaws until he could start working again and we could get back on our feet. Thank god for our families.
Second story, I have a friend who got married, had a child and her husband got laid off, he found a part time job with no benefits. She became ill and could only work part time. She went to apply for a medical card, and once again she was turned down because they had "too much" income. They ended up getting a divorce so they could qualify for state aid. They went from being a cohesive family unit to being another statistic.
How come a party that preaches family and financial responsiblity does nothing to help those that are really in need?

myLot reputation of 94/100. Barb42 (1717)   ranked 60 out of 4,368 in politics  3 months ago

soccermom, government health insurance will be far worse if they get what Canada has. How would you like to 'have insurance' but need an MRI and have to wait 6 mos. What if your didn't have 6 mos to live? Would not matter to them. That's why you hear so many Canadians coming to America to be treated. I know several Canadians and they say their health plan their is terrible! Is that what we want here in America? They say that those of us who have insurance won't have to worry; ours will not be messed with. But I wouldn't even count on that. We have Medicare and annuity insurance with dental from my husband's job when he retired. But I can see the government doing away with that choice!

asuniqueasyou,

She said her job as mayor of a small town was very much like that of a community organizer, except that it came with responsibilities. How is that not belittling community organizers? It is obvious she was knocking Obama, but she knocked all community organizers in the process.

myLot reputation of 89/100. soccermom (1815)   ranked 209 out of 4,368 in politics  3 months ago

Barb, nobody is saying we have to have a plan like Canada has. This is a tough problem, but with every problem there eventually has to be a solution. I work in insurance, and I can tell you that when people hit the point that they can get Medicare it is an absolute nightmare, trying to sort through supplements for this and for that, and what will be covered and what won't. We are one of the fortunate families because my husband now has a job with great health benefits, the sad part is we are not the norm anymore.

I am so sick of hearing about the Canadian healthcare system. We are the United States of America. We are the only World Superpower. We can and should do better.

I'd rather have the Canadian healthcare system than no system at all. It seems as if you don't care about the over 40 million Americans who don't have and can't get affordable healthcare.

If we can spend 10 to 20 billion dollars per month on an unjustified war in Iraq, then we can take care of America's most neediest citizens.

Where are your priorities? Isn't it better to nip an illness in the bud rather than dealing with the full blown ailment?

America is the only industrialize country in the world that doesn't offer healthcare to all its citizens. Can't you see how morally wrong that is?

How can you support Republican Congressmen, Congresswomen and Senators who have the best TAXPAYER healthcare plan in the world and yet refuse to consider offering it to the very same taxpayers?

This is the difference between Democrats and Republicans. This is the differece between Liberals and Conservatives. Your side doesn't care and our side does.

I don't want to hear about the problems with the Canadian healthcare system. I want to deal with the issues that face the American people.

Stop making excuses for the failures of the Right. They are wrong and you know it.

Well said. One can attack her policies, but to attack her for being female or a mother is wrong.

With her vow to be an advocate for all special needs kids/parents, she dared the Dems to say one more thing about her child. I don't think I'd be taking any dares from Governor Palin myself.

Sarah Palin now has to explain how she was for "the Bridge to nowhere before she was against it.

She now has to debate Joe Biden, the author of the Women Against Violence Act, and prove to the American people that she has the best interest in women in mind.

She has to tell women why she knows what's best for them when it comes to their own body, when she didn't know what was going on in her own household.

The days of attacking Sarah Palin and being called sexist are over.

The gloves are off and the fight has begun.
