What I liked most about Gov. Palin's Speech... |
There was a lot to like about Gov. Palin's speech last night. She hit all the major issues, took some entertaining shots at Obama and Biden, took on her detractors and put the incompetent press in their place. All of those made for a great speech, but none were examples of what I liked most about it. What did I like most? Never once did she play, "The Victim". She never accused the press or the left of "invading her space", nor did she summon up crocodile tears. She spoke of emotional issues, but used them as reasons to be motivated, not as "Whoa is me" appeals. She did bring up some of the personal shots against her and her family, but only in the light of love and admiration for them. She stood her ground, made one of the most impressive speeches of this campaign season, accepted the nomination and gave us a great example of what we can expect in the months and (if she wins) years to come. She showed up to accept a nomination and introduce herself to the USA... That's history now, so next we'll get to see how she lives up to the standard she set for herself last night.

1. newtondak (1802) | 3 months ago | Sarah Palin did just what she needed to do - she let all those naysayers and critics know that she wasn't going to let them walk all over her - that she's going to stand up for herself, her family, and her beliefs. It is obvious that she is not, thank goodness, a Hillary Clinton, and is not going to be complaining that everyone is picking on her because she is a woman - Sarah Palin can hold her own and doesn't need to pull out the gender card. There is some talk that the Democrats have already figured out that they're not going to be able to fight her and that they will instead ignore and avoid her. They will focus and comparing McCain to Bush and hope that works for them.
| |
| |
ParaTed2k (2613) | 3 months ago | I hope they do stick with that one. It has worked so far, but only because McCain hasn't talked much about issues yet. Once he does, people who don't read candidate's websites will start hearing the differences... and the steady "McSame" drumbeat will become an empty echo.
| |
newtondak (1802) | 3 months ago | I think that approach is already getting old with people, and as you have said, if they actually do the research, they will find that it is not true.
| |
olivebranch56 (549) | 3 months ago | If Obama and Biden had one half a brain between them they wouldn't be playing that card. It is common knowledge even in Washington that Bush and McCain hate each others guts, LOL what a hoot, to think it will be same old same old!
| |
newtondak (1802) | 3 months ago | It sill definitely be interesting to see what of the country's issues will be the focus of the election. First the people, the media, and all politicians involved need to put away both the race card and the gender card and go forward from there. Sometimes I think it would be most beneficial if we only HEARD the candidates and didn't SEE them before we voted - it might make a big difference!

2. xfahctor (2311) | 3 months ago | It did a lot to energize the base and the party overall, it brought the vibe the party has been lacking for some time now, as did her introduction in to the ticket. I did however find the speach lacking in substance. I was hoping for a lot more details. I was also disapoiinted that it was more a "comercial" speech instead of utilizing her off the cuff and free style speaking manner, that was what I was hoping to see more of. Over all she did a great job, just not quite the type of job I was hoping to see her do.

ParaTed2k (2613) | 3 months ago | This speech wasn't about specific issues, it was about her accepting the nomination and answering the avalanche of rumors and shots at her. She needed to show she was willing, ready and able to take what they throw. Now, if all her speeches are like this one, then I'll start to worry about her fitness for office, but last night she accomplished all she came to do, and more.
| |
ParaTed2k (2613) | 3 months ago | PS, also, she is the VP candidate, it's not her place to announce planks or platform.

olivebranch56 (549) | 3 months ago | You are exactly right Ted, that will be McCains job tonight, and I hope he does half as well as Gov Palin did.

ParaTed2k (2613) | 3 months ago | ravella, and you are very good and mindlessly parroting the incompetent press.
| |
Tallymommy (1839) | 3 months ago | She felt the words, not just reading them, and they all use a teleprompter, is that all you have to critize her about, how sad.
| |
Taskr36 (2714) | 3 months ago | "She proved she could do really well reading a teleprompter" A teleprompter can't give you passion when speaking. She delivered an emotional and forceful speech.
| |
Barb42 (1718) | 3 months ago | In fact, the announced today that the teleprompter wasn't working correctly. They said she never saw the first two lines of each page. Also, at one time, it was running to fast (this was a second teleprompter after the first one broke) and she had to ad-lib some (or remember, I would say, her own speech). The part about the Hockey Mom and pit bull was ad-lib completely.
| |
ParaTed2k (2613) | 3 months ago | Yeah, she seemed to be the only speaker who didn't have some problems with the teleprompter. Considering the pressure she was under, and how much bigger the audience was than she is used to, I'd say she did amazingly well. It's funny, Obamabots will praise him for his ability to speak using a teleprompter, but apparently it's only a feat of talent if he's doing it.

3. bobmnu (1746) | 3 months ago | I have worked with the Handicapped Population for most of my life and at one conference I attended the Speaker was talking about the Challenges the Handicapped person faces and how they overcome the challenge. The one thing I took from the conference was you may be handicapped through no fault of your own but only you can make yourself a cripple, by not facing the challenges of every day life. Gov Palin has faced every challenge in her life and overcomes it and moves on. She will never be a victim because she does not see herself as a victim. When you are a fighter and survivor you don't have time to sit back and feel sorry for yourself every time you get knocked down. Instead you get back up and face the challenge. Senator McCain has picked a great running mate who will one day be elected President.

Thanks for sharing your intelligent response. Blessings Marilyn

4. olivebranch56 (549) | 3 months ago | Ted I woulda voted for her as President last night. I have kept saying I was waiting to see who chose the best VP to decide who to vote for, well McCain pulled it out by his boot straps. I finally feel like there is someone running that I can believe what comes out of their mouth. She didn't make wild promises, she was standing on the record she has already achieved, Uh Let's see Barack do that(LMAO). Anyway I was very impressed with Sarah Palin, and I must say "For the first time in this campaign, I can say I am proud to be a Republican", sorry just had to do that. I will quit now before I get myself in trouble. Blessings Marilyn

olivebranch56 (549) | 3 months ago | Yes Barb, Michelle will have her claim to fame in the history books, LOL. That was the first thing that popped in my head, and I couldn't help it. I am so glad your son decided to vote McCain/Palin. I was the same way this election, just didn't know who to vote for, so McCain I think has pulled his victory out of the hat with Palin. Blessings Marilyn

5. ram_cv (1811) | 3 months ago | I saw her speech on CNN just some time back. She seemed to be addressing a wide range of issues without going into details. I think for starters her speech did kick in some verve into the McCain campaign. I thought it was floundering a bit after Obama seemed to have stolen a march. But, I guess the real test starts now, starting with the vice-presidential debates. Let's see how she holds up there. Cheers! Ram

6. flowerchilde (6097) | 3 months ago | Hello, ParaTed2k, Hubby and I liked her speech.. And we liked her.. I usually do like most politicians. I think they all (or almost all) mean well.. So to me it's merely a question of who believes closest to what I believe (as to what the world is and where it should be headed).. According to the speech last night, she's pretty close! And the conservative party is my party because I agree with them more closely than I do with the liberal party. But the world has portrayed conservativism as being a right wing extremist hate group.. That's terrible. I don't know one single conservative like that. Yes they do want to preserve/conserve the institution of marriage and traditional family. (And this makes them 'evil' by today's standards..)

7. sndcain36 (720) | 3 months ago | Yeah, pretty damn amazing. Her family has been horribly smeared this last week and yet she came across as strong, confident, assured, and ready to take on the responsibility of being VP. I hope she continues to set such a sterling example.

8. kenzie45230 (2331) | 3 months ago | I thought she was great. I loved how she handled the "issue" of her having a son with Down syndrome. She called him a "beautiful baby boy" and didn't mention his disability...but told the parents of children with special needs that they would have a friend in Washington. Her family (and even Mrs. McCain) took turns holding that prescious bundle, showing that they are a team and work together, and yet, as soon as she was able when they joined her on the stage, she held him herself. It was like she was saying, "I dare you to say more about this (non)issue." The team of McCain/Palin is going to kick butt in Washington. And in 4 years, she'll make an excellent President.

10. gewcew23 (3424) | 3 months ago | Gov. Palin was awesome, I could have listen to her all night long. She is a fighter and also has a tender touch like when she told the story about the POW from Ohio. Then she punched Obama in the solar plexus.
