Did your kid or sibling have trouble going to school?  | |  When my sister started kindergarten she just wouldn't go, she would cry and wouldn't go to school. There were quite a few days that my mother had to go to school and pick her up because she wouldn't stay. The school recommend we talk to a counselor about it, they called it separation anxiety. Well after that the next year she went to kindergarten and first grade fine.
This year they changed her school, so now she is going to a new school. I don't know why because the other one was closer but that isn't my point. My sister went the first day, she was nervous but she went. Then yesterday my mother had to work so I usually take her to the bus stop. She was fine until the bus came, then she starting crying and wouldn't get on the bus, so I just came home with her. I didn't really know what to do.
So I called and told my mother what happened, she said alright. So then my sister just stayed home yesterday and when my mom got home from work she talked to her about it. I don't have a car so I can't take her to the school. My mom usually works around 8-4 sometimes different hours but that is usually what her hours are. So she can't take her to school everyday.
My mom was off of work today and yet again my sister got up and got ready fine, no problem. Then my mom and me took her up to the bus stop in the car, she was doing alright not good but alright until the bus came. Then she got in line but she started running toward us like twice. Well she just wouldn't get on the bus so my mom had to take her to the school. She had to go in with her, I went in with her also. She was crying and she just had to let one of the teachers/staff take her to the classroom.
I could tell it upset my mother, it kind of upset me as well. In one way it upsets me and in another way it aggravates me. I am kind of worried because my mother can't be taking her to school everyday, she has to work.
Did you ever have any trouble like this when your kid or sibling went to school or started school? How did you deal with it?

| | | | | | 1.  marialeovebweeg (185) | 3 months ago |  i never tried having these kind of problems with my siblings, even with myself. but i have heard from my aunt that my cousin, who is just starting school, needs to be accompanied, not only in going to school but also during the entire class.. now he is 7, but still he doesn't want to be left by his mother in school..:)

She has had a lot of problems with her father coming and going in her life, so I think she is afraid that if she leaves me or I go to the store that she won't see me again, but i always ask her whats wrong, and when she does say "mommy coming back?" I always hug her really tight and reasure her that I will be standing there waiting for her when she gets home.
She's fine when she gets home, she tells me about kids getting in time out lol. She shows me the pictures that she has drawn, and different things.
I would deffinately trying telling her how exciting it is and tell her about things that you know she likes and make her excited to do those things....like snack time--fruit snacks and punch. Painting, coloring, story time, palying on the swings and slides......
Try peping her up kinda like they do in sports games.....or make her a chart on the wall at home and everytime she gets on the bus like a big girl she will get to put a sticker on the chart and when she gets 5 stars she can do something special!
That works sometimes too!

She cries on the days that they do not have school. I liked school when I was younger until middle school I didn't like it at all and played the I don't feel good card alot.

| o2bnocn (911) | 3 months ago | Yeah I ended up missing a lot of school as well. Once I got older in about the 11th and 12th grade I started to go to school more regularly. Having anxiety didn't help with that either, it just made it worse for me to go to school at that time. | |

I have no kids but I have witnessed situations like that! MOst of the time, the parents will accompany the kids for a week and when she started getting friends and will enjoy with the, they stop that attitude!
It is hard to be upset with a little kid, especially she is adjusting so, I guess it will be better if there is someone who can accompany her regularly, let's say a week and help her go through the new routine of her life! Whoever is available!

| o2bnocn (911) | 3 months ago | That's a good idea. On Friday we sent her to school and I got a phone call from the nurse saying she has a fever of 102. So my mother went to go and pick her up. The nurse said that this was a nasty virus because it will come and go, she has had a couple of kids come to her there and that the parents think that they are just nervous and not really sick.
So I think it is just a combination of her being sick, and going to a new school. Hopefully in the next couple of days she will be fine, I think she will be. | |
