I do have somebody in my life and I am happy that I am not alone trying to find someone. I am married and have a small son to take care of. It is nice to have people at home to share your life with.
It is a shame for people who live alone and don't want to be. It can be a very sad and lonely situation. I think that people basically need people.

Not being in a relationship doesn't mean that you are lonely and it doesn't mean that you are facing life all by yourself. I am in my early 20s and I've never been in a relationship but there has never been a time in my life when i fell alone. When you're surrounding with family and friends who love and care about you how can you feel alone? Since i would like to one day settle down if i can meet my future love while i'm jumping out a plane,jumping off a rock, behind a mixer board or in church, it would be nice.

I think its possible to feel very alone even when there are others around and, often, I would find it easier to deal with certain situations alone. It can be hard enough being responsible for your own life without having the added concern of how your condition/feelings/actions will affect another person. As for hugging themselves to keep warm ... I assume you are talking metaphorically?
