Is "300" Movie based on real story?

Yes. There really was a battle where the Spartans held off the Persians with only 300 soldiers. The movie took quite a bit of license with the fantastical elements of the story, but the root of it really did occur.

The Spartans were fierce fighters. An old Spartan saying was "Come back with your shield, on your shield, or don't come back." That was the attitude they held about all aspects of their life. The adjective "Spartan" meaning sparse, utilitarian, comes from their lifestyle. For a Spartan, nothing was necessary but the things that allowed them to be better soldiers. They didn't get along very well with some of the other Greek city-states, but they left a lasting impression on history.

It was a great movie, wasn't it?

Well, it has been altered both for the graphic novel and the film, but yes, it's based on the Battle of Thermopylae (Hot Gates) in 480 BC
