I had been having a hard time falling asleep and someone told me about melatonin. It's supposed to be a natural way to get your body to fall asleep. I don't know if it's all in my head, but it seems to really work for me. I am able to fall into a deeper sleep than I do without it. So, has anyone else used it? Did you notice a difference?

Hi friend,I haven't heard about that sofar.But if I dont miss my evening walk and I walk nearly 6 kms everyday,I get a good and sound sleep.Without my walk its difficult to get sleep.Thanks for sharing.Happy mylotting. thumbup

Hello, Yes I have taken melatonin and to me it is the best med to take for sleep. I can count it down, within 20 minutes I doze off and sleep better. The best thing is that you don't have that bad hangover feeling in the morning and its suppose to be non-habit forming and more of a health food type med. So yes I did definately notice a difference. I have been taking it about 3 years now and think it is great. Sweet dreams.... Peggy

Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone found in most animals, including humans, and some other living organisms, including algae.[1] Circulating levels vary in a daily cycle, and melatonin is important in the regulation of the circadian rhythms of several biological functions.[2] Many biological effects of melatonin are produced through activation of melatonin receptors,[3] while others are due to its role as a pervasive and powerful antioxidant[4] with a particular role in the protection of nuclear and mitochondrial DNA.[5]

The use of melatonin as a drug can entrain (synchronize) the circadian clock to environmental cycles and can have beneficial effects for treatment of certain insomnias. Its therapeutic potential may be limited by its short biological half-life, poor bioavailability, and the fact that it has numerous non-specific actions.[6] In recent studies though, prolonged release melatonin has shown good results in treating insomnia [7]

Products containing melatonin have been available as a dietary supplement in the United States since 1993,[8] and met with good consumer acceptance and enthusiasm.[9] However, over-the-counter sales remain illegal in many other countries including some members of the European Union and New Zealand,[10] and the U.S. Postal Service lists melatonin among items prohibited by Germany.[11]

Well,according to that which I got from Wiki,it seems it does work.
I have a sleep disorder,and I had never even heard of it.
Maybe I was so tired that I forgot if a Doctor did mention it.

Yes, Meletonin does help one fall asleep faster. I have taken it several times when my mind was racing or I just couldn't seem to lie still long enough to fall asleep. Since it is natural, you won't have to worry about any side effects like the next day or anything, which is a huge PLUS in my book.

About 20 minutes and you're on your way to sleepy-ville, ZZZZ.

Hope you get some or you'll be staying up all night long, getting credit for hundreds of posts on MyLot while we're all snoozing! lol We wouldn't want you to beat us out! While you at it....just go ahead and take double the dose of that Melatonin so all of us can get ahead of you!:)
