The POWER OF SCRIPTURE! |
|
Yes, it should be true!An elderly woman had just returned to her home from an evening of church services, when she was startled by an intruder. She caught the man in the act of robbing her home of its valuables and yelled: 'Stop! Acts 2:38!' (Repent and be Baptized, in the name of Jesus Christ, so that your sins may be forgiven.) The burglar stopped in his tracks. The woman calmly called the police and explained what she had done. As the officer cuffed the man to take him in, he asked the burglar: 'Why did you just stand there? All the old lady did was yell a scripture to you. '*'Scripture?' replied the burglar. 'She said she had an Ax and Two 38s!'* I say this is one heck of a good story. What do you say?

5. James72 (3530) | 3 months ago | lol. Very funny! There is actually a self defence you can learn called "Verbal Judo" and it is extremely effective. We should never underestimate the power of words! I have a friend back in Australia that is a born again Christian. I once witnessed him completely diffuse a very volatile situation in the City one day with a gang of bikers by hugging the gang leader and telling him that Jesus loved him! True story. This guy was completely taken aback and didn't know WHAT to do or say.

redyellowblackdog (3387) | 3 months ago | There is a similar story of over whelming ones enemies with love and understanding in one of the Allen W. Eckert series of books about the winning of the American frontier. BTW: Check out that series of books. They are historical novels (6) with every character an actual real person and all events are documented to have occurred. Covers the developement of America from about 1650 - 1850. They are a fantastic read. A devout Christian who even spoke the Indians' lanquage went out from his cabin to speak to the leader of an Indian raiding party. He offered the Indians peace, his horses, and whatever food they wanted. The Indian laughed so hard he almost fell off his horse. Then he slayed the man with his war club. So, given what I know, I won't try any verbal judo unless I'm overwhelmingly outnumbered and unarmed.

James72 (3530) | 3 months ago | I will definitely try to track down these books then and thanks for the referral. May be a bit hard from Egypt to find them but I will try and if unsuccessful will wait until the end of the year when I move to the US. The Indian story is an interesting one! Yes, I guess this is definitive proof that it won't always work! lol.

redyellowblackdog (3387) | 3 months ago | The look at Indian life is particularily interesting as it begins in the 1600's before there was extensive white influence. The Indians of that time are a completely different people than the Indians of the movies. The early Indians of those times were stone age people. No steel or even horses. Knives, tomahawks, cooking implements, had to be fabricated from simple natural elements. The culture of that time was incredibly backward. During the time frame of the books the Indians jump from the stone age to the beginnings of the industrial age. It is a remarkable journey for such a short period of time.

James72 (3530) | 3 months ago | This sounds very similar then to the Australian Aborigines. Europeans came to Australia in 1788 and the local tribes were very much stone age in many ways. They have basically gone from stone age life to modern life in a little over two hundred years! As you can probably imagine, many of them have not adjusted well to this over this time and even today it is a constant challenge for true integration in my country.

redyellowblackdog (3387) | 3 months ago | None of this makes me envy primitive people confronting modern times. Though, if I were they, I'd rather have access to modern medicine than not. Which reminds me. Everyone has heard about white man's diseases devasting Indian poplulations. What I had not realized until reading these books is that the disease spread ahead of the white man. The first few Indians encountered whites and then brought the diseases back to their tribes. Visitors between tribes spread the diseases among almost all Indians. When whites started moving west they found entire Indian villages abandoned for no apparent reason which only later was discovered to have occurred because of disease from whites.

6. gewcew23 (3424) | 3 months ago | That sounds like someone saying to someone I will pray for you with a brick bat. She said she had an Ax and Two 38s, what did she have three arms. If some one came at me with an ax and two 38s I would Repent and be Baptized, in the name of Jesus Christ, well I have already but that is not the point.
