Why do you not want a daughter?

My mother has always thought that daughters are a burden. She has pampered only the boys in the family, both among the children and grand children. Has always made it clear to us that she would have been happier if we were boys!

It is really a sorry state of affairs that girl child is not being importance by many parents, with the result the ratio of boys-girls will effect badly in the long run.

As Cupid says that one day it will be the boys giving dowry because they will not be able to find girls to marry!

Yes, it might happen in future........when the eligible girls for marriage will not be available.........you know in the State of Punjab the ratio of girls/boys is -738/1000, which is very alarming.

I think in UP/Bihar also the ratio of girls in dangerously low.

It may be better in UP/Bihar than what it is in Punjab and Haryana. Many Punjab based farmers are finding match in Zharkhand and Bihar.

This situation will be in every state one day.

I dont know now why there is so much difference in boys and girls. Both are doing equally well in careers. So it is not a burden looking after the girl like in the old days when only the boys went to work.

My mother did not want me because I was a girl. I was ultimately adopted by my aunt because my mom did not want to do anything with me at all.

I am very much against adoption myself and do not like others going for abortions.

Well it's sad to hear that your mother didn't think she wanted you because you were a girl. I have four boys and one girl. I didn't really want a little girl myself but never to say I would put her up for adoption or abortion. I just never thought I was ready to handle a little girl because they are so delicate. Kind of scary since I never took care of myself growing up. I think she is my little companion in life now. I try to do all the things I never did to myself growing up. She is emotional like me and a talker. She is smarter than the boys are too.

About adoption I have two siblings that are adopted. I love them alot. I am glad that for whatever reason their parents gave them up they became our family because I'm actually closer to them than my own brother. Cheer up, my dad was also adopted but his mother died at birth. Try to look past all of it and look at the bright things like where you are today

I too had been adopted by my Uncle when I was just one year old. Their family till today have been everything to me. I am very much attached to his kids because they have always treated me as their kid sister. In fact they do not like me saying that I am their cousin! Everyone thinks of us as sisters.

Then God has blessed you in many ways. Your mother is the one that lost out on having a friend and daughter for the rest of her life, a decision she will one day regret.

It is only when the dowry system is abolished that this bride burning and female foeticide will stop. The more people get greedy for money the more innocent people will die.

Daughters are very loving....when my first son was born my husband was very disappointed...because he wanted a girl....in fact he did not come to the hospital to see my son too. And there was celebration when my daughter was born. She is the apple of my eye. And my best friend.

This is very well said. Even though today the girls earn equally well as the boys still the parents do not like the idea of giving birth to girls. There will some a time when there will be more boys around and hardly any girls for them to marry.

I feel very sad when I see small girls being abandoned in streets or in hospitals...most of the abortions done by married women are because they had baby girls. I too have a son and a daughter. My daughter is very understanding and the apple of my eye. She is my best friend.

I have composed this poem. I was actually thinking about my mother while composing this poem. She did not want me because I was born a girl and that too after three girls. Till today she only pampers the boys in the family including grandchildren!

In Asian countries having a daughter is like a curse. Daughters are not welcomed in most families. I was born after three girls in the family and my mother till today lets me know that she would have been happier if I was a boy. We find a lot of new born girls being left on the streets or in hospitals and the parents disappearing. I still cannot think how a mother can leave her new born child and go away.

This is so horrible! Gosh! You can't make a baby without a female, so what do they want? To make themselves extinct? It's the men's DNA that decide the sex of the child.. so blame the man, not the child.

yeah oreoCookie i agree with your reply.i am asian but in my country Philppines boys and girls are very welcome only chinse has like this because they believed that women are not good in business.at the end of the story its all about MONEY

hi Myka.i am asian but this story that girls are unwanted its not true.only chinise has this coz of the Business.they said womens are not good in business thats why their first child is daughter not welcomed.
