Do you drink milk? |
|
I just got this in an email today. It was part of a longer one but this passage struck me as worth passing on: Think about it. Baby cows drink cow's milk. Adult cows don't drink cows milk. Baby monkeys drink monkey milk. Adult monkeys don't. Baby pigs drink pig milk. Adult pigs don't. Baby humans drink cow's milk? Adult humans drink cow's milk? Doesn't make much sense, does it? (Side Note: A study was done recently and an embarrassingly high percent of young people today don't even know where their milk comes from! They just know it comes in a plastic jug. Well youngin's... it comes from cows.) The average American gets 807 milligrams of calcium daily from milk. The average Spaniard gets 308 mg a day from milk; the Brazilian gets 250 mg; the Taiwanese gets 13 mg. These non-Americans are neither toothless nor are they lying around immobilized because of repeated bone fractures. Lots of Americans are, though. Do you know what country's population suffers from the most bone fractures due to osteoporosis? Right! Americans. Do you also know the population that consumes more milk and calcium supplements than any other country? Right again. Americans. Truth is, the structure of cow's milk blocks the absorption of most calcium in it as well as a great number of other vital nutrients. What is your opinion of this? Correct or all nonsense?

If you drink a lot of milk then definitely fall ill. When you drink milk always drink milks which are boiled because the unboiled milk contains lot of virus and infections. Always it is safe to drink hot milk instead of cold milk.

Pigglies (3941) | 3 months ago | Where's the proof that milk is healthy for you? There isn't any.

owlwings (2906) | 3 months ago | Yes, Hatley. I didn't say I agreed with it! In fact I was rather astounded at the letter (which was advertising a motivational audio to do with weight loss). Kamesh, I think that it depends on the reliability of the source of the milk as to whether it's safe to drink fresh/cold. Where pasteurised milk is available, it should be safe.

3. Darshu (354) | 3 months ago | Hey owl i always like to drink milk. In 1992, the American Academy of Pediatricians released their statement regarding the use of whole cow's milk during infancy. The findings were published in "Pediatrics" volume 89, number 6 in June of 1992. Plainly stated, the Academy recommended that whole cow's milk and low-iron formulas not be used during the first year of life. Infants fed whole cow's milk receive inadequate amounts of Vitamin E, iron, and essential fatty acids. They also receive excessive amounts of protein, sodium, and potassium. These levels may be too high for the infant's system to handle. Additionally, whole cow's milk protein and fat are more difficult for an infant to digest and absorb. The most dramatic effects are on iron levels in the body. Infants fed breast milk or iron fortified formula have normal iron levels. Recent studies show infants often have depleted levels when started on cow's milk at six months of age. Optimal nutrition in an infant involves selecting the appropriate milk source and eventually introducing the infant to solid foods. In achieving this goal, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that infants be fed breast milk or iron-fortified formula during the first twelve months of life. Between the ages of four to six months, appropriate solid foods may be added. Taking breast milk or iron-fortified formula, along with the age-appropriate solid foods and juices during the first year of life, allows for more balanced nutrition.

Pigglies (3941) | 3 months ago | That's because human milk (breastmilk) is balanced for human babies. We are not cows and therefore not meant to drink cows milk.

4. runner0369 (347) | 3 months ago | thank you for sharing those findings with us. I used to drink milk and eat dairy products until a chiropractor recommended that I cut dairy from my diet because it is so heavily processed and we were not really intended to drink cows milk anyone, which is much different from human milk. The fact that many countries eat very little dairy and do not have problems with low calcium is very true. So many old people in this country suffer from osteoporosis, especially women, yet these people (at least the ones I know) always drank their milk. My energy level and attitude has increased dramatically since I cut dairy from my diet. I feel so much healthier and my body feels so much happier.

6. Munchkin547 (947) | 3 months ago | Hmm that's some interesting information in there!! I haven't got enough knowledge of it to know whether that is true of not, it stands to reason that it's not really natural for us to be drinking cow's milk but there must be a lot of research out there that backs up the health benefits of it, otherwise the idea that it prevents osteoporosis etc wouldn't have been around for so long. I wonder if the other nationalities get their calcium from other sources? Or perhaps their diets are just generally healthier which is why they are healthier in general?! I really don't know but it's something that i wouldn't dismiss offhand, equally though, i'm not going to stop taking my milky hot chocolate up to bed with me!! lol xxxx
