Do you know any reasons why people like to smoke?

I think a lot of people start smoking when they are young. Peer pressure plays a big part with the stress of wanting to be cool etc. The nicotine in a cigarette is a drug and it's addictive so once you start it's hard to quit.

I am a smoker myself and have been for 15 years now. I started when I was 12. At first, it was more to look cool around my friends, I think. Now, it is just full fledged addiction.I smoke when I am bored, when I am stressed, and especially when I am on a long drive. That is when I tend to smoke the most. On long drives, I get tired and smoking keeps me awake.

People make the bad decision when they are young to smoke, and after a while they get addicted to nicotine so it's very hard for their bodies to not have it in them. It's really unhealthy and costly, and it had no benefits to be addicted, it's probably best to give a huge effort to quitting, and think of all the benefits of quitting all the time.

I think the reason people smoke is simply addiction,boredom, stress or because other people are. I live with two smokers and I think it's just addiction for them. sometimes it seems like it's just routine for some people.

Well, I'm a smoker, too and I can tell you, I smoke because I just don't have the desire or the energy or determination to quit. I know I sound lazy, but with so much going on in my life right now, that's one thing that isn't at the top of my priority list. I wish non-smokers could understand how difficult it really is to quit... I know, I've tried. I've been thinking about quitting, but it really takes a lot of effort that I don't have to give right now. I smoke a lot when I'm stressed out, when I'm working on something that requires a lot of attention, or when I need a break. Sometimes the only answer you can give to the question, "why do you smoke?" is, "Because I do."
