What do these values mean to you?

Pretty easy, as the first five listed there make up the sixth.
To me, good citizenship means being trustworthy and responsible, showing respect for those who deserve it, being fair and acting in a caring way.


Here are the others in my own words:

1 - Trustworthiness is acting in such a manner that one places honesty above self-gain or self-aggrandizement.

2 - Responsibility means owning up to what needs to be done and doing it when and where it needs to be done and without consideration for what other people might say or think.

3 - Respect means to avoid harming other people (or things) in word or deed except where harming them is in the great good of others collectively such as in calling someone who steals a thief or someone who lies a liar.

4 - Caring is stopping to think about the other person's position and acting responsibly toward it.

5 - Fairness is making decisions and acting on them without prejudice and without even the appearance of a conflict of interest.

Well, to be honest (hehehe) none of those words are any that I assign much value to, and if a company that I was applying at thrust that kind of a 'supplemental questionnaire' on me while I was there I most likely would have said, "ummm, let me get back to you on this" and I would have made a beeline out the door. I do not want to work with anyone who is so friggin serious as all that!!!

Once I was applying for a job at the Outback restaurant. I did not want to wait tables anymore, but my whole family had been very supportive of me for a long time while I looked for something that I would be happier doing, and it had been months and I was feeling desperate. The restaurant was right by my house and the hours were suitable to me so I figured it wouldn't hurt to take that job.

So, I filled out the app and was called in for an interview. I hit it off amazingly well with the interviewer... he was very excited because he felt I was exactly what they were looking for. After the interview was over there was one final step in the hiring process, which was a sort of 'supplemental questionnaire', hehehe. There were a bunch of questions about Australia that they asked!!! The only thing I knew about Australia was that that is where Crocodile Dundee is from! Anyway I winged it and got through with flying colors actually, I only got 3 wrong... and because of that THEY DID NOT HIRE ME!!!!!

I couldn't phucking believe it! I had the experience, the flexibility, the personality, the maturity, everything that they wanted and they did not hire me because of that stupid test on Australia!!!!

Then the next day I saw an ad in a little local type newspaper for someone to take care of exotic plants. They paid great and did not require any experience. I called them up immediately and was practically hired over the telephone! I had that job for the next few years, and loved almost every minute of it. Thank god for that stupid test, because if I had gotten that job I would no longer have been checking the paper and would have missed out on one of my most favorite jobs I ever had! And been stuck doing something that I hated!!!

Ok, let's see now~trustworthiness means that I am able to
keep all things that I see and hear confidential. I wiil
not discuss anything with anyone unless it is one of my
superiors. responsibility~ I will do what is expected of
me and be on time and will take the work that I am to do
with the utmost seriousness and timeliness. respect~ I
will respect others as I do myself and be open and honest
and willing to make sure that I do not treat in a
dishonorable way. caring~ I will show that I am truly
interested in working together in harmony with my fellow
co-workers and showing them that I care about my work
ethics and how it will help them make their jobs easier.
fairness~ I will always try to be fair to people and not
judge anyone without knowing what is involved in a situation.
citizenship~ I am a citizen of the United States of America
and I take this oath very seriously. I was born in the USA
and am am true to my Country and believe in what it stands
for the right to remain free and live in peace and harmony.
Did I pass the test? What grade did I get? It felt like
Social Studies all over again!
