Depression is the worst thing in the world to have. I have had depression for a number of years. I don't think that i will ever get over it. I sleep all the time and feel hopeless most of the time. Does my medication work? Well, at least it stops me from taking my own life. It's doesn't fix my problem though. How many other people out there feel the same? I would like to hear other coments from people suffering with depression.

I suffer from depression and on meds to help me, I keep a journal and compare my days, when some days look really bad and I go back to read what I have wrote there have been moments that were wonderful and i just didn't see it at the time. i seen a counslor every week and that helps me to. Don't give up there is help out there just have to find what works best for you. GOOD LUCK.

2. arko006 (851) | 2 months ago | Well I am not kind of suffering,but I got depressed sometimes,and to reduce my depression I do the followings:- 1. Do not read newspapers. Newspapers publish negative stories most of the time. Even in peaceful periods, newspapers will find the worst in humanity and place negative stories on display in order to promote sales and subscribers. Stories focused on War, rebellion, death, destruction, doom and despair abound in the newspapers. You will not miss any news. Friends, family, and your local air raid siren will keep you informed if your attention is needed. Only pay attention to the things you can control in your life. Stop reading the newspaper and reduce the negative input to your brain. 2. Turn off your television. Watching and listening about the horrible economy and the losses associated with War will add to depression. In fact, you guarantee the feeling of helplessness. Helplessness allows depression to nurture. If you really need to watch or listen to these kinds of news stories, promise yourself you will bury yourself in the documentaries that are sure to follow in the next 5 or 10 years. A way you can eliminate most of the negative input to your brain is by setting it aside for a date somewhere in the future. I guarantee in the future, you will not find it very interesting. When visitors come to your home, make sure you turn off your television and keep it off. News television broadcasters are fighting for your guests' attention as they promote despair, war, death, and destruction with many headline news interruptions. Those little banners that run across the bottom of the screen achieve your attention and they take hold of your consciousness. Television will diminish your positive spirit. 3. Say good things about others My Mother always says, "if you can't say anything nice about others, don't say anything at all." However, when you find yourself in a conversation and a relative says, "Remember Uncle Phil?" " He was an alcoholic" Respond with " yes, Uncle Phil was an alcoholic and he was the most charitable person, I have ever met." Connect your friend's negative statement about Phil with a positive one. Set yourself up to find the positive in anyone's statement and you will keep negative thoughts and depression from overtaking your life. A great motivator once said, "treat everyone you meet as if they were going to be dead by midnight." "Your life will never be the same again." 4. Get physical exercise Adults forget about exercise when suffering from depression. Make sure you are exercising daily and sending more oxygen to your brain cells. The result of exercise will improve your health as well as your attitude. 5. Breathe deep and relax. Practice the following breathing exercise to relax your body and mind. Breathe deeply and relax. For 2 or 3 minutes each hour, take a short mental vacation. You can engage in this exercise while you are standing in the checkout line at the supermarket or when listening to others while talking on a telephone. You can complete the exercise at home or at work. Take three deep breathes and relax. As you inhale, concentrate on calm and peaceful thoughts. You may think about relaxing by a mountain, by the ocean or comfortably in your favorite room at home. As you exhale, concentrate on pushing any tension out of your lungs. Focus on positive images in your life. Focus on laughter, love, excitement, and hope. Keep breathing in and out in this pattern until you feel better. If you practice the exercise often, you will notice wonderful changes in your outlook and in other aspects of your life. I think the only way i will ever be able to truly overcome my depression is to deal with the main things in my life that has caused it. I tried medication, i have been on so many different ones i can't remember the name of half of them. They helped very little. The last ones i was on only made me angry, so i gave up on taken them. Since i have quit taken them i am emotionally fine and i only think that is because i have come to terms with a lot of things in my life that cause my depression. Also i went through a great therapy program to help with some of the mental issues i was suffering from.

4. celticeagle (1354) | 2 months ago | Hi there. I suffer from severe depression and social anxieties. It is no fun. I spent two years in bed basically. I took a medical leave from work and ended up taking an early retirement. The medication does atleast balance you out. I would hate to be without it. It is a serious illness that people who do not have it will not take seriously. You must do all you can to stay above the dark line that draws you down. Every comedy, every friendship, every hobby is utilized.

5. my2boys (526) | 2 months ago | I agree with you. Depression is very bad. I used to have it so badly that i tried to kill myself. And almost succeeded i flatlined in the ICU at the hopital but the doctors were able to save me. The medicine that i was given for depression did not work. In fact that is what i used to try and kill myself. I think you just need to find a really good psychologist to talk to. I talked to a few that did no good but then i found a really good one. I only talked to her a few times and i felt much better. Good luck!

I for stress we so much drama in our life plus school and relatiomships that it gets us worried and make up get nervous and we get anxiety. Depression I think is because we think to hard on the world and all of the bad things that happening and its just make us feel like there is no control and happiness so we get deppressed and eating disorders is because of the image we have in this day and age in society we have so many thing taughting us about our body that is make it feel horable and we try to make them perfect. 7. moneyandgc (3050) | 2 months ago | I have had depression for most of my life. I take Effexor and as long as I take it like I should it helps me a great deal. Forcing myself to go out and to interact with other people helps too. It is not easy and it definitely helps if you have a good support system. My husband is awesome with me. He makes sure I don't just hide from the world. Writing in my journals can be a big stress reliever for me as well. Just being able to pour everything our can sometimes make me feel better. After I am done I just close the book. I don't sit there and dwell on it. I have also just started therapy again for the first time in years. We'll see how that goes.

8. katkat (1291) | 1 month ago | There are lots of people that suffered from depression and I’m one of them. I have it for years now and I don’t think that I can totally snap out of it. Years, back I feel exactly the same as you do. I sleep a lot and the feeling of hopelessness and emptiness are always there. Sometimes, I tell my self that if I sleep, I will not wake up anymore. But I’m still alive, lol. Right now I’m bit okay, I still think of taking my own life but tried my best not to. I know I can do it. Having someone that depends on me helps me a lot and my dog is there to give me unconditional love.
