I don't like it when a book is made into a movie as some important parts of a book are deleted because they don't make for good box-office draw or due to lack of time. I often find the movie lacking an important part which offers the explanation on why a certain event had to happen. What movie adaptation of a book did you feel did the book justice? or was better than the book itself?

It drives me crazy....sometimes. Gone With The Wind was a wonderful book and the movie was spectacular. Then you look at like Thinner by Stephen King, the movie was horrible and I was so disappointed. I think a movie maker has to be careful when making a movie from a book that they don't delete significant parts or take away the essence of the characters.

Sure. I appreciate it but when there are too much revisions, I do complain but I can't say that I didn't enjoy it. I read the book anyway, so I know what I missed. It will be just so bad if it happens that I don't get to see what I want to be put in the movie.

I almost never like a movie after I've already read the book.
There's only one exception that I could think of and that's Lord of the Rings.

I think it is pretty cool when a book is made into a movie because it is always interesting to read the book and then watch the movie, and see how much is different, what was changed, and which actors and actresses are playing the roles of a character and you can see if the actors or actresses are anywhere close to your visual image of the characters,I will admit sometimes movies made from books are not good because they leave too many things out.

I'm trying to think if I've seen an adaptation that I've enjoyed more than the book, and I can't think of one. The adap of To Kill a Mockingbird was good, but I think it might be an exception. I hate the adap of That Was Then - this is Now by SE Hinton because they completely missed the point of the story and went for a happy happy hollywood ending - very annoying!!
However, when I was younger and wanting to transistion from teenage books to adult books, tended to read those that had been made into films as I thought the book must be good and in most cases I was right. So, I think adaps are good as they encourage people to then read the book and they then may move onto other books by the same author (as I did). Actually, I've just thought of one film that was better than the book - Jaws, although I enjoyed the book, I think the film gets rid of the superflous lovey stuff. I also really enjoy both the book and film of Jurassic Park and they are in my top ten lists for books and films. For me, JP the film is better in terms of excitement and as an adreneline rush, but the book is more of a slow burner, but still really good and hugely enjoyable. I generally try to keep the two seperate in my mind and don't really compare them but instead enjoy each one on their own merits.

The only book I"ve seen that I thought was better (in some ways) as a movie was the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I've read the books several times, but always have to skip over a lot of boring stuff. Also, Tolkien was lousy at developing characters, and that's something the movie filled in nicely. But I did object to building up Arwen's role when she barely even appeared in the books.

A great book is always going to be better than any movie made from it, but I can watch a movie and pretend it has nothing to do with the original. That way, I can enjoy it for what it is instead of making comparisons.

It depends on the book. Right now I'm watching The Other Boleyn Girl, and so far they've done a decent job with it, but I'm not even half way through yet.

I think the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice was good but it was four hours long so it had time to get in all it needed to.

I think, as much as I liked the Harry Potter movies, they were lacking in content and could have been an hour or two longer each.

hi.

i try to appreciate the movies. a lot of work, effort and money. that's how i respect the industry.

but really there are movies that are quite lesses than expected. lesser in terms of time, completeness and variations. but i still support.

one movie that i was hoping to be a little special is Eragon. i had vast visuals and imaginations on the book. but the movie lacked time. but i enjoyed it because it starred the respected actor jeremy irons.

i usually read the book first before seeing the film. happy by the way start reading your Twilight book because the movie will be shown next month. wink

not really. I always prefer the books over the movies. It seems with the movies they leave some of the good stuff out.

i too don't like books being made to movies. For example Bourne Series completely lost its essence when made to a movie. But we all need to accept that movies like Lord of the Rings, Narnia are far better the book itself. These are lengthy movies where every detail has been paid attention to.
