These automated answering systems/services when you call the banks, airlines and other businesses and they ask you to press 1 for English, then instructs you to press another number and another...

then you finally hear something ringing on the other end and then tells you, 'we will be with you in a few minutes' and you hear music, ads and offers while waiting for somebody to answer! Ten to twenty minutes passes, then you either cut-off or they tell, 'hold-on' again and they will transfer you to another person... Oww dear!!

Have you ever experienced this? Doesn't it infuriate you when these things happen!

When you're giving someone else your money, it's totally wrong of them to ask YOU to wait. In fact, next time, I want you to tell them to wait. I'm sorry, I'm making lasagna, could you please hold for three hours? Then put on some music.

I agree with you on the fact of waiting on hold for so long, not necessarily the comment about the money part.

My thought is sometimes there are valid times, that a person needs to wait on hold for a specific answer and the such.

However, the reason should be clearly explained and agreed upon by the caller. Not just, please hold, click and all of a sudden you hear music playing.

No, it should be like this:

Operator: Mr./Mrs. Customer I will need to place you on hold for "X" amount of "time" in order to ensure I provide you with adequate, correct answers to your questions. Is that alright?
Customer: Okay, that's fine.
Operator: Thank you Mr./Mrs. Customer, I'll be right back.~ Then the Music plays.

Proper communication goes a longgggggggg way in my book.

Yeah Sheepie! Customer service nowadays over the effing phone sucks! To think that we are actually giving them business to boot and yet half the time we are asked to wait. Makes me wonder, do they want business at all! Ironic!

Hi hdjohnson! Yep, some companies don't really know or train their personnels or even monitor the quality of service they have over the phone! I agree that proper conduct in answering the phone and redirecting customers goes a long way!

no why i have to hate those people..they having some wrok..that while tehy are asked us to wait..if we love all there is no problem will come in this process..love all the people ..try to know their needs..if somone asked me to wait without any reason..i will kill that person...these are the nonsense things..i wont allow it ..waiting is not a bad one ..if it is a reasoable one..we can wait

RIGHT ON!!! I totally hate the impersonal touch that has been replaced with this automated voice: press 1. for this; press 2. for that.~ Makes me want to scream!

Then they tell you please enter your account number: and when the operator finally does get on the phone; they ask you for the account number all over again, and ask you to re-verify your identity. What is the so called "automated system" in place for if it didn't do the first time?

A total nuisance. A waste of time, but it saves the companies a whole lot of dollars in overhead expenses, salaries, health insurance, etc...

My thoughts are if you planned properly, you won't run into those problems ever or even if you did, you had an sufficient plan "B" to combat the ever rising challenges in the economy and the like.

Yeah it happens to me most of the time, when i don't have internet connection, i have to call for the technical support of the internet service provider of my internet connection. When i dialed the hotline, I'm go a lot of instructions, press this and that, and so annoying after i done those pressing, i have to wait couple of minutes until a representative is available, i really hate this, i think I'm wasting my time waiting. Sometimes i just put back the phone and wait until the internet connection is back.

Isn't it very annoying that when you needed some tech support or info they aren't there to answer your queries right away! There are times I slam the phone down too after waiting for so long!
