Do you think pitbulls make bad family pets or what?  |

 We had a pitbull female dog we named Vickie since she was a tiny little pup (don't know how old she was because I cannot tell the doggie years but my hubby does) and she has been fine. She previously had 7 puppies and 1 died, 3 got sold, 1 was given away, 2 were at our home. One was mine which I called her Reesey after Reeses Peanut Butter Cups because of her color and the other one was my hubby's named Kimbo after the boxer. When we got to the point when we couldn't afford to take care of all 3 dogs, we had to give up my Reesey to my brother n law. And I know this situation has nothing to do with this subject except that the fact that its about pitbulls, I was wondering do they make good pets. So far Vickie and Kimbo hasn't bite us yet. I have heard that they will turn on you but we never taught them how to fight. I do believe both of them are good dogs. If they do not know anyone like if someone they do not know will come to the gate without us there, they will bark.

Thanks for the comment. I truly love our 2 dogs Vickie (the mom) and Kimbo (the son). But I truly miss my Reesey (was given away) because we couldn't afford to take care of 3 dogs. She was a sweetheart, plus she was the same color as her mom. | |

I can put my hand in her mouth and trust that she won't bite down. I've had her since she was 8 weeks old. I believe the way a dog will act depends on how it was raised. | |

3.  lisa0502 (554) | 2 months ago |  I had a pitbull. She was the sweetest dog I have ever met. The kids loved her and she loved them. But I do have to say the I also owned a border collie. One day when we left the kids at home ( the oldest was 15) and went out the smaller kids were playing in the dog food. Something went wrong and our pitbull attacked our border collie. So that night we ran her to the vet and got her neck stitched up. The vet says that the pitbull should not hurt her again and to try to keep both again. She was good for about 2 weeks. Then one day I was by the dog food with the kids playing around. Something snapped in her again and she attacked the dog again. We did end up putting her down as I could not get her to release the other dog. That put a fear in me I never had with her. I do not to this day hate pitbulls because I know they can be good dogs.
