1. meticulo (239) | 2 months ago | Last year had been the worst year financially since I got married for 12 years now. It made me really treasure the value of any single cent. Yes that's true. It was really a disaster. With debts and daily needs all over, I was totally helpless. I could really say that business is not at all good. And last year was totally a sad experience. We borrowed money here and there to be able to pay for our ten wheeler truck so that checks we issued would not bounce. Since our business seemed so slow at that time. Oh I couldn't anymore recall how we were able to survive that trial. But thanks God we have completed the payment and have a stable finances right now. Praise God for it! Alleluia!

deeesfamilyvalues (135) | 2 months ago | I am so happy for you. That sounded like a disaster. I am very glad you are back on track. Having money problems really makes you think before you spend doesn't it. I am very thankful we are being wise with our money. Right now is a very scary economical time. Thank you for sharing with me. Keep up the good work. I would say you will be happy around your Thanksgiving table this year.

4. janeives43 (986) | 2 months ago | Hello...I guess I am most thankful for the fact that my health and my husband's has been reasonably good during the past year, even though we are both in our sixties. I am thankful, too, that our family, for the most part, has enjoyed good health; and that our niece who has been dealing with her second bout of ovarian cancer seems to be making progress in chemotherapy. I am thankful for much love of family and friends, at a time when many have little or none to give them strength. Lastly, I am thankful for being given the time and the health to watch my children and grandchildren grow.

deeesfamilyvalues (135) | 2 months ago | I will pray for your niece. Cancer is a scary thing. I have a friend that recently had to have a hemi-pelvectomy. The most radical amputation. They took half of her pelvis her right hip and leg. She had a rare form of Chondrosarcoma. It was a scary thing. She seems to be doing well. I hope your niece pulls through as well. Keep up the good health. Do you have a secret for being so healthy? And, you have a lucky family-that you can spend so much time together. There will be celebration around your Thanksgiving feast. Thank you for sharing.

deeesfamilyvalues (135) | 2 months ago | Thank you also. She just went to a rehab clinic to learn to sit and be functional again. You are welcome. It is a comodity we should all share.

5. Piscesmoon (1927) | 2 months ago | Thanksgiving is not a tradition that we have in Australia but, despite not having the same history, it seems a tradition that we could all adopt for our own reasons. My family has had it's own share of medical and other dramas this (and every other) year. Like you, I am most thankful for my family, the support I did not realise was there from my extended family until recently and, yes, our health.
| |
| |
|
|
deeesfamilyvalues (135) | 2 months ago | When you say that is not your tradition it makes me remember how different each culture is. You are right we all have things to be thankful for regardless of a holiday. It is interesting how people can put aside arguements and rifts for one day and then celebrate a holiday. Too bad we couldn't take the holiday out and celebrate everyday. I hope that your family has recovered from your health issues. It isn't fun being sick or seeing someone you really care for sick. Thank you for sharing with me.

Piscesmoon (1927) | 2 months ago | American history isn't something that Australian schools have taught in any depth but, Thanksgiving started with the pilgrims and indians didn't it? My early childhood memories of those relationships was shoot-em-up cowboys and indians movies, with the indians being portrayed as savages, slaughtering white people for no good reason. I know these biased portrayals were not accurate and have long felt an affinity with native American tribes trying to maintain their ways of life. To me, all people need to have a time they give thanks, no matter their history or circumstances. My eldest son has a heart problem that requires occasional hospitalisation and will eventually require an operation. My youngest has a different medical condition that causes him problems and, again, will probably need an operation at some stage. My middle son is happy that he didn't get either of these conditions, as am I! Neither of my affected sons' problems were hereditary and were "luck of the draw". They are healthy except for occasional, worrying times that their conditions rear their heads. I am thankful that all my kids are generally healthy and that we enjoy our family time. My only desire is that we have many, many, happy years together. All else is an inconvenience.

Piscesmoon (1927) | 2 months ago | I had to look WPW up as I hadn't heard of it before. How terrible that a small baby has the condition. From what I read, it can sometimes have no ill effects but it must be awful for her parents to know that the situation could change without notice. My son has a floppy mitral valve. His heart rate goes through the roof and he has massive dizzy spells but, so far, the valve hasn't actually leaked. He has had a few stays in hospital and heaps of tests but all we can do is monitor the situation. My youngest son's problem is a hydrocele, which is a fluid-filled cyst in the testes that leaks into his stomach and makes him feel terribly sick. Again, we can only keep an eye on this (well, HE can since, at 12, he is too old to want me to look) but it may need an operation later on. Goodness, you have had more than your share of worrying child health problems, with your youngest son's operation and the hydrocephalis tests. Does that mean your 5 year old is in the clear now or can the problem reappear? I totally understand why Thanksgiving is important to you. We have something else in common. My relatives came from Cornwall too and my Mum's grandfather used to tell her stories of the Spanish pirates pillaging their way down the coast. Fascinating history. I would love to visit Cornwall. I am betting your father had wonderful stories to tell. I truly admire the native Americans for their way of life and their love and respect for the land. There is no reason NOT to be proud of your heritage. Excuse the long post but there was a lot to cover!

6. mentalward (2290) | 2 months ago | I'm very thankful that I can still get out of bed every day and use my own legs to cart my carcass around. I'm a LOT slower than I used to be since developing fibromyalgia, lupus and arthritis and my knees are giving me a fit with tears in the ligaments, but I can still walk. I'm thankful for my eyesight. I'm close to being legally blind without my glasses, but I can still see with my glasses on. I'm thankful that I am still able to take care of myself, aside from not being able to support myself financially. I'm thankful for my sons, even though one of them is still giving me a fit with his impulsive acts that always tend to land him in awkward situations. They always call or visit me, help me with anything I might need and always give me a hug and tell me they love me. I'm thankful that this year has been much, MUCH easier than last year! We moved in May from Maryland to Virginia, selling the old house and buying this new one. Around the same time in March, my mother was diagnosed with metastatic cancer and died 3 weeks later. I was sole heir and executor of her estate. She lived in an apartment, so I had to empty her apartment as soon as I could and this was taking place at the same time as we were packing up to move to Virginia. It was a nightmare! My stress level was through the roof because I received no help at all from my husband with my mother's things (and she had a 1,700 sq. ft. apartment FILLED with stuff). I was finally moving into my dream home but it turned into a nightmare. Oh, there's so much more that I'm thankful for but it's impossible to list it all here. The sun shining, enough food to eat, a roof over my head, my loving pets, etc. etc. etc. I just can't narrow it down to what I'm MOST thankful for. There is so much!

deeesfamilyvalues (135) | 2 months ago | Wow, I am sorry for the loss of your mother. That had to be hard, especially with eveything else going on in your life. I have to tell you- you(minus the glasses) look like my sister in this picture. Each time i see your post, I have to do a double take. For your health. I hope that you are able to stay in good health. I have a lot of family with Fibromyalgia, arthritis and DJD. I also have DJD and am reaping the reward of that lovely disease. Ialso have an impusice child. SHE will be the cause of stock rising in clairol or anyother hair dye stock. That ia a whole other conversation. I will say thins. God has a great sense of humor.

9. nanajanet (1477) | 2 months ago | You know, I find that people who have been through a lot are usually more thankful than those who have not suffered. It makes you appreciate the good things. I have had many "challenges", including cancer and the worst, losing my son almost 5 years ago, amongst other things. But I have a beautiful daughter, granddaughter, my husband, a nice home, not an expensive or large one, but it's paid off. Unfortunately, it was paid off from proceeds of a lawsuit in my son's death but I could have lost him and my home, so I have to be thankful that something came good out of his death. I have a wonderful family and friends, my health, a job I love, a chance to travel now and then, I live in a pretty place, too. I am thankful to live in a country where I am allowed to vote, and argue about the government without getting thrown in jail. Where I can be a woman and not be treated as an object and replaceable. I am thankful that I can practice, or not practice the religion of my choice, that I can see, hear, dance, sing, hug, love, help others, and so much more. Life is not perfect, nor is it supposed to be so I am thankful for the fact that I can be thankful.

10. AndrewFreyne (995) | 2 months ago | It sounds like you have got through quite a lot in life! I'm thankful for the fact that I can see, I can hear, I can walk and I can hear the sounds of the world around me. I guess I'm thankful for every new day that arrives and I'm still alive! I know that this is a cliche but it still rings true! There are others that are always going through something worse than yourself. I never forget this and so I am always grateful for the senses that we seem to take for granted. I give thanks for my life at the end of each day and I ask for many similar days in the future! Andrew
