Are you for or against affirmative action?

Although I agree with the "spirit" of affirmative action and what its implementation was supposed to achieve, in practice, it just doesn't (or hasn't) work(ed). I know that I myself believe in and support "equal opportunities for all", but I'm sure there are still people out there who have out-dated beliefs about minorites, immigrants, women, etc. I don't know if we will ever completely remove prejudice from our society, but with more people catching-up with 21st century thinking and laws in place to penalize those who openly ignore basic human rights and freedoms, hopefully affirmative action will not be missed.

Like weasel said the thought of affirmative action agrees with me but in practice I dont see how it can work.

It will not only foster resentment, you didn't get a job on the basis of being white (which is in fact racism) or because your male just because people are trying to have a certain percentage of minority groups within thier company/school whatever.

Personally, whoever fits the job and culture more in the company should get the job.

Affirmative action is a policy or a program which gives preference to a minority, or protected group of people with the stated goal of countering past or ongoing discrimination against them. It can take many forms including priority acceptance for government contracts, education, or employment and/or language training or vocational training.
