How did Dale Carnegie's book, How to Win Friends and Influence People effect your business and personal life? Have you read the book? Many managers and executives claim that this book is the cornerstone in any education on interpersonal relationships and how to interact with people effectively. One of the things about this book that sticks with me is Dale Carnegie's statement that "the sweetest sound to any person is the sound of his own name"; which has led me to my recent development of "self personalizing" websites that extract display and pronounce the first name of the person viewing the website in traffic exchanges.

2. harcab (985) | 2 years ago | I have studied a little of this concept. I think it is a form of dishonesty, not allowing oneself to be who he really is. I've heard people change the title of the book to, 'How to Skin Friends and Seduce People'. Maybe that is more correct?

cognigen (102) | 2 years ago | I doubt that you have either read the book or taken the Dale Carnegie course. It is very much the opposite of what you suggest. Dale Carnegie was one of the first proponents of positive thinking. His approach is extremely honest. He taught techniques like enhancing memory with mnemonic techniques, so when you meet somebody, you remember his or her name; and always use their name in conversation with them. If anything, I had difficulty with the Dale Carnegie course because there was TOO MUCH positive thinking, all "sweetness and light"; and I enjoy sometimes being little negative.

reinydawn (3019) | 2 years ago | Harcab, you are kinda right. It's all about talking to a person in a way to get them to do what you want them to do without them realizing you are doing it. Instead of telling someone "Do this because I'm the boss" you listen to why they don't want to do it and then tell them "You would be more important to me if you did this." It is a form of manipulation, but the people who have not read the book really don't know that so you can use it to your advantage. It does actually help you get people to do things you need them to do.

3. reinydawn (3019) | 2 years ago | Yeah, I read most of it, it's a pretty easy read. About halfway through I realized it's about the same thing I had been learning in other seminars and stuff. You need to learn what to say to a person in order to get them to get the job done. It's really fun though when someone else has read it and is trying to use the techniques on you. I just want to tell them - hey, I read it to, can't we just get to work?

Human beings were created to make others happy and at the same time we can feel happines about it. Good relationships are also important to make business and as everybody has to make some living, we can as well do it together with people we like and have a good contact with.
