Technically a microchip can stay powered up for 20 years straight, but I heard that a long time ago.
I salvaged an original IBM pc from an office a few years ago. The insides were just one big dust bunny. It must have been used for a decade.

| 9. freak369 (3130) | 2 years ago |  I have one that is about seven years old; the hard drive died on it recently and that was the only thing that ever needed replaced on it. The new Alienware one I bought isn't worth the money that I paid for it. We have two other computers that were built for us, they are nice but I detest Windows XP and want Windows 98 back on the new one that I have. Seven years for a computer is a long time, hopefully you won't have any major problems.
