Is it true the first saw film is based on a true story?

Ok since the film was released I've been hearing that its loosley based on a true story so I had a look around the internet and couldn't find anything about it. Has anyone else heard this?

I belive the second one was a lot better than the first but find the third was not that much better than the second but it was a very good movie!
