Father without baby sitter accused of caging kids email this discussion to a friend?

POSEN, Ill. (AP) - A suburban Chicago man locked his two young daughters in a wire cage hidden in the back of his pickup truck because he didn't have a baby sitter, officials said Thursday.

Ricardo Gonzalez, 35, of Midlothian, was arrested Monday after a woman at a gas station in Posen heard a crying child and spotted him pushing small hands back into a cage, police said.

He had a wire cage behind the front seats of his truck, police said. Black-tinted windows and a large plywood board in the back window concealed it.

Gonzalez told police he used the cage because he didn't have a baby sitter. He also said he wanted to control the girls, ages 2 and 5, so they wouldn't run away. Police said the girls did not live in the cage.

Gonzalez will appear in court July 31 on charges of misdemeanor child endangerment. Cook County prosecutors were exploring Thursday whether the charge could be upgraded to a felony.

A telephone listing for Gonzalez could not be found, and it was not clear whether he had an attorney.

The children were turned over to the state child welfare agency and placed in foster care Monday.

Agency spokesman Kendall Marlowe said the department was investigating abuse allegations against the father. It had previously found the mother neglectful and provided unspecified "supportive services" to the family.

(This version CORRECTS the children's ages to 2 and 5 instead of 3 and 6.)

wow, this is a sad story. i couldnt imagin how thoes children felt cooped up in a cage like that.
but my queston is. if the father was right there in the ruck with them why were they in a cage and not sitting in the seat??.
and what was this father doing while leaving the kids in the cages??...

Did the father keep the girlsin th ecage while he worked? What was he doing that was so important as to need a babysitter? If he kept the kids in a cage while he was "busy" how did he keep them from getting too hot in a locked car? This story is just terrible. I can only imagine how those little girls felt. Hopefully, they will be okay now that they have been "released".

This is sad! How could you do this to a 2 and 5 yr old. It makes me sick. The cage couldn't have been very big. I hope those kids go to a good home. If he put them in a cage who knows what eles he has done.

Wow!! Let's hope he is found guilty, and him or his family are bound from ever having custody of this child, or children ever on his own again. To me, this man is really Sick and needs some help, but maybe he was just sitting there hoping he would get caught as he wants to go there but afraid to ever admit it.

But more and more things like this is happening, and to me, the ones I feel sorry for, are the kids who end up having kids just so that someone finally might be out there listening to it all.

Just my thoughts.
