Without trust no relations can go ahead.
I have two grown up girls in their 20's, both living away and we're poles apart (they're in Australia and I am in Canada). They spent their childhood and early teens in the Philippines where I instilled in them family values. They seem to uphold what the things I taught them. I am proud of them for being all-heart, independent and less materialistic.
I must admit that there were few times when (I was older) me and my mom had misunderstandings and I blurted out words that I shouldn't have, only to make a point, that got her upset and crying. I always apologizes after not that I am scared of what my grandma used to say but I feel bad also that I made her cry.
Reasons are: they had undivided attention from their parents, they were given more responsibilities than their siblings at an early age, they felt the pressure of greater expectations. There was a theory that adding a child diminishes the family’s "intellectual environment."
it hurts to say i love you to the one you truly love only to find out he/she is not even listening...:-(
